Impeller – Surface Rebuild
Whipped out a nice little surface model of this impeller that we scanned, and I must say I’m quite happy with the result. Here is a screenshot of the final surface:
Much of this was done with just standard Rhino commands, but the vertical surfaces of the vanes had a very slight draft to them, and so I used the exact approach I outlined in my T-Splines webinar on the retopo snap to makes those surfaces. After that it was just a matter of trimming it all up and joining it together. As you can see from the PointDeviation report below, the vast majority of the surface is within 0.005″ from the scanned mesh data. Quite good I would say!
Now to rebuild the housing surface, and see how well these two mate up.
